Pre-k has always played well in public debate – who can argue with spending time and money on adorable young kids? But a new Gallup polls shows just how much people like pre-k and how much they want to see it expanded.
According to Gallup, 70% of Americans favor using federal money to fund universal pre-k.
To rephrase, in a country where the size of our government is at the heart of the left-right political divide and where, for instance, the idea of government-run universal healthcare is a contentious nonstarter, 7 out of every 10 people still support a government-funded universal program for supporting our nation's youngest students.
For the sake of comparison, the approval rating for Congress is currently sitting at 14 percent, which means the idea of using federal dollars to fund pre-k for all is polling 5 times higher than our national legislature.
