Education organizers in New York City played a tremendous role in electing Bill de Blasio in the 2013 mayoral election, specifically when it came to making education inequality the central theme of his campaign. "Vision to Victory" chronicles that work as a case study of how education justice organizers can get their issues on the political agenda – and win.
Long story short: traveling aboard a blue, repurposed school bus, organizers visited neighborhoods across NYC to gather input from parents, students and community members on what the types of resources, services and opportunities they want to see in their school. The packaged it all in a report called "An Education Roadmap for a New Mayor" and then worked hard to make that platform the dominant issue in the mayoral campaign.
