New Yorkers Across the State Join the People's March for Education Justice

On Saturday, March 4th, New Yorkers took to the streets to march for equity in public education. Spearheaded by Schott Foundation grantee Alliance for Quality Education, the People’s March for Education Justice was held in 8 cities across the state.

New research from the Center for Civil Rights Remedies shows that excessive discipline of African-American students and students with disabilities creates systemic inequities in educational opportunities. Trump Response: What's the Big Idea?

Tuesday’s message was a tonal reset for President Trump, but let’s not forget the challenge before us: to borrow his own words, to “create a level playing field” for all of our people. We indeed “bleed the same blood” and “salute the same flag.” As such, the federal government has the responsibility to ensure the civil rights of all students and guarantee all of them an opportunity to learn and to succeed, not create a system where only some learn and some succeed.

Supreme Court Drops Transgender Student's Challenge To School Bathroom Policy

Virginia transgender student Gavin Grimm's lawsuit to allow access to school bathroom that matches his gender won in a Federal Appeals Court. However, between the time of that victory and the Supreme Court's review, the Trump administration rescinded the Obama-era interpretation of civil rights law. On "Day Without Women," Two Districts Cancel School

In Alexandria Public Schools in Northern Virginia, more than 300 staff members have asked for the day off, prompting district officials to take the extraordinary step of canceling class. In a note on its website, the superintendent said its 18 schools would not have enough teachers on Wednesday.
