This year is the 50th anniversary of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act as well as the Voting Rights Act — and the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
With these anniversaries in mind, the Schott Foundation for Public Education and the American Federation of Teachers, along with our co-sponsors, convened social justice advocates in New Orleans on October 2-4. This conference, Advancing Racial Justice in 2015: Communities and Labor Organizing Together, brought together representatives from four arenas of work to explore and develop opportunities for collaboration so that we can grow and strengthen this movement: educational justice, economic justice & Fight for $15, the Movement for Black Lives, and immigration reform.
